Our client is a large-scale low care and residential facility in south east metro Melbourne.
The facility was seeking to upgrade its furniture in four areas:
Formal Dining Area
A new formal dining area was being introduced which was required to seat 18. Large tables (to seat six) were required but they could not use multiple legs due to concerns about them getting in the way of frail residents’ legs. The chairs were required to have arms that did not hit the table top when they were pulled up to the tables. Smart Seating provided three 1500mm diameter tables finished in “Echelon Redwood” to match the facility décor. A heavy duty 150mm diameter chrome pedestal base was used to provide adequate stability. Converse timber-framed dining chairs with “drop” style arms ensured the chairs could be pulled up to the tables. To match the décor, the chairs were finished in a “Wild Birch” stain.
Casual Dining Area
An existing casual dining area was equipped with healthcare style heavy-duty plastic chairs. While these chairs were functional and practical and had provided good service over a number of years, they felt cold and lacked aesthetic appeal. It was decided to upholster the plastic backs and seats with a Materialised Crypton fabric. The result is that both functionality and practicality have been retained while comfort and appearance have been greatly enhanced.
Formal Lounge Area
The formal lounge area was required to reflect the elegant, warm and friendly character of the facility. A combination of “Comfy Club” lounge chairs and “Nelson” tub chairs were selected. Each was upholstered in different but complimentary Materialised Crypton fabrics.
The facility’s on-site hairdressing salon had a requirement for height adjustable chairs so that the residents could easily enter and exit the chair and the height would be sufficient to keep the hairdresser from having to bend down. The Ergo-Classic™ Utility Chair was selected due to its functional capabilities, combined with its comfortable and aesthetically pleasing design. Each chair was upholstered in black vinyl to maximise the life of the upholstery in an environment where the chairs become wet and stain easily.
